As a company already well-known in the manufacturing of infant formula, a2 Milk is diversifying into the paediatric and elderly nutrition business in China with the upcoming launch of 4 paediatric supplements under the brand of a2 Zhi Yi later this year. These supplements will focus on immunity, anti-allergy and gut health in powder sachets format; and on brain and eye-care in soft gel format containing patented algal oil.
a2 is expanding its portfolio into the lucrative paediatric supplement market in China which is estimated at US$4.8 billion in 2025, representing almost 20% of the total nutritional supplement market in the country.
Building its share into the 2 new consumer segments will not be difficult as a2 is already the 4th largest infant formula brand in China, after Feihe, Aptamil (Danone) and Yili. The paediatric supplement market currently is fragmented and not dominated by any brand, and a2 has the advantage due to its strong brand awareness to reach out to the right consumers. Leading players include Inne (12%) followed by WitsBB (7%), Xingsha (6%), D-Cal (5%) and Yikexin (4%).
As China infant formula market faces constant challenges due to declining birth rates and rising regulatory scrutiny, a2 Milk entry into paediatric supplement is timely, as a2 seeks to extend its brand trust from infant nutrition into the broader child health and wellness solutions. | Cookie Statement
At the same time, a2 is also launching on a pilot basis UHT milk containing Calcium, Vitamin D and colostrum basic protein in Costco in China.
David Bortolussi, Managing Director of The a2 Milk Company mentioned that infant milk formula will continue to be the key pillar of its growth strategy, outperforming the market with 13.6% annual growth.
Another growth category for a2 in China is senior nutrition in which it offers fortified adult milk powder since 2024 in China.
