Australian-based Funday Natural Sweets, the sugar-free candy manufacturer, is entering the lollipop business with the launch of its low-sugar Funday lollipop, which contains 1g natural sugar versus 10g or more found in other competitors’ lollipops.
Funday owns a range of sweets containing no added sugar or artificial sweeteners, but this time it has added lollipops to its collection in a bid to provide consumers with a healthier alternative.
Its promotional campaign highlighted the 5-star health rating on its new lollipop, while pointing to the 0.5 star rating held by other brands. The cheeky campaign is part of the brand’s mission to disrupt the confectionery category and take on big sugar, according to Funday Natural Sweets Founder Daniel Kitay.
Mr Kitay mentioned that the battle between confectionery giants is about to become more intense as people become more health conscious with strong focus on low-sugar and sugar-free diets, coupled with the rise of GLP-1 medications. He added, “We are in a new era of food, the GLP-1s have kicked off and are only going to become more prominent. Interestingly, products like chocolate are going to see a decline, but products like Funday offer a sweet hit without making people feel nauseous or sick. We’re already seeing a huge increase in people coming to us saying they are on a weight-loss journey with GLP-1 and are using Funday to keep them going through the day.”
The rapid shift into ‘Better For You’ products could shape the future of the confectionery industry. Consumers are no longer seeking ‘indulgence at all cost’. Food now has to taste good as well as do good for you.
Funday offers candy products which feature prebiotics and dietary fibres, in addition to being gluten free and vegan. Its new Funday lollipop is now available at retail shelves for A$10 (US$6.55) in a pack of 8 colorful lollipops. Currently, it is available in 4 flavors namely ‘Strawberry & Cream’, ‘Pineapple’, ‘Cola’ and ‘Sour Apple’.
