Nestle has introduced Bear Brand Milk N’ Soy, a budget-friendly powdered drink combining dairy and soy, catering to school children in the Philippines.
A large majority of Filipino school children cannot afford a healthy diet, with many lacking access to essential nutrition. As such, this new launch by Nestle seeks to address undernutrition issues affecting children in the region including the Philippines.
Nestle aims to provide a drink that delivers vital proteins, vitamins and minerals from both dairy and plant-based sources.
Serena Aboutboul, Head of the Nutrition Strategic Business Unit at Nestle said, “We have created Bear Brand Milk N’ Soy to meet the specific nutritional requirements and taste preferences of school-age children and have made it affordable for Filipino households.”
The formulation is based on an enzyme-based technology that integrates dairy proteins with soy proteins, overcoming the usual challenges of solubility and texture associated with plant proteins.
The introduction of the product in the Philippines aligns with similar initiatives, such as the roll-out of a comparable product under the Nido brand in Nigeria, Africa.
This latest launch is part of a broader expansion strategy across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
The Bear Brand range comprises various dairy offerings such as sterilised milk, powdered milk, and a variety of fortified nutritional drinks. Developed by Nestle, the range aims to prioritise nutritional value and safety, while mainly addressing the Asian market. Many of its products are fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, catering to different age groups and nutritional requirements, from infants and children to adults and seniors.
