China’s leading MSG producer, Fufeng Group Ltd, is expecting to make losses for the 1st half of 2026, compared to a large profit of Rmb 1.79 billion (US$265 million) it recorded in the same period last year.
According to a company spokesperson, Fufeng recorded a loss of Rmb 53 million (US$7.82 million) in the first 5 months of 2026, and it attributed the loss to an exchange loss resulting from the depreciation of the US currency, as well as its large holdings of US dollar. In addition, weak selling prices for its key products which include MSG, xanthan gum, threonine and lysine also affect its margin.
Fufeng is one of the world’s largest producers of glutamic acid and MSG, with products sold in more than 100 countries and regions. The company ships more than 5 million tons of products annually, including about 900,000 tons of exports, with amino acids and xanthan gum as its major exports.
