Ajinomoto (M) Bhd has officially opened its new state-of-the-art eco-friendly factory in December on a 46 acre site in Bandar Enstek Halal Hub, in conjunction with its 60th anniversary celebration in Malaysia.
Umami Seasoning AJI-NO-MOTO® was invented more than 100 years ago by Ajinomoto Co. Inc. in Japan. It made its way to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1961 becoming one of the first Japanese companies to set up office in the country. In 1965, following the completion of its first factory on a 25 acre site in Jalan Kuchai Lama, the company commenced local production of Halal certified Umami Seasoning AJI-NO-MOTO®.
Tomoharu Abe, its Managing Director/CEO said, “Ajinomoto’s new factory which relocated from Jalan Kuchai Lama to Bandar Enstek is a ‘smart factory’ and Certified Green Building. Advanced technology that optimises operations through automation and digitalisation are incorporated to improve efficiency and productivity. The new factory is designed to provide employees a conducive and friendly work environment, with recreational facilities. In addition, the new factory also promotes customer engagement and environmental sustainability.”
The new factory currently occupies around 60% of the 46 acre site which offers it ample space for future expansion.
The Company’s current range of consumer products include its popular Umami Seasoning AJI-NO-MOTO® flavour seasoning TUMIX, Rasa Sifu™, AJI-SHIO®, menu specific seasoning SERI-AJI®, advanced sports nutrition aminoVITAL®, and artificial sweetener PAL SWEET. Its range of industrial products for food manufacturers are TENCHO and ACTIVA®.
Ajinomoto Malaysia aim is to become a Global Halal Production and Specialty Ingredients Centre to meet the increasing demand for Halal food seasonings and products both locally and globally.
The Chairman of Ajinomoto Malaysia, Tan Sri Teo Chiang Liang said that 2022 has been a challenging but very auspicious year as it opens its new state-of-the-art eco-friendly Halal certified factory despite the challenges created by the pandemic at home and globally.
