US-based baby food manufacturer, Gerber has recalled 2 Soothe ‘n’ Chew Teething Sticks products as they pose a potential choking hazard to babies and young children, according to the Singapore Food Agency.
The agency was updated by the importer, Redmart Pte Ltd, on the voluntary recall. Gerber has directed Redmart to recall the products as a precautionary measure. The affected products are all batches of Gerber’s strawberry apple and banana sticks.
Earlier on, Gerber’s parent company, Nestle has announced the recall and discontinuation of the teething sticks on 31 January on its website. The notice mentioned that the recall was initiated “after receiving consumer complaints of choking incidents”, with one reported emergency case.
