In Malaysia, The Ministry of Religious Affairs, through the Department of Syariah Affairs, has issued a statement regarding complaints received about Royal Canin’s gastrointestinal cat food product. Following the complaint, an inspection was conducted, revealing that the product contains pork by-products, as indicated on its packaging.
In light of this, the Department of Syariah Affairs has advised businesses selling the product to immediately cease its sale. This move is to protect the welfare of the Muslim community in the country. The department also issued a reminder to all business owners, managers, traders, suppliers, and importers to remain vigilant and ensure that products sold to the public are halal and free from contamination by non-halal substances.
Malaysian consumers are encouraged to report or share information about the sale of non-halal products to the Halal Food Control Section at the Department of Syariah Affairs through its hotline at 7166222 or at any of the Halal Food Control offices.
Pet Food manufacturers and suppliers need also to be mindful of the existing trade regulations governing food and beverage products in Malaysia.
