Carlsberg has recently been fined in Vietnam for sharing misleading information on its products through advertising in the country. The issue was raised by competitor, Heineken which led to investigation by the Vietnamese National Competition Commission (NCC).
The NCC ruled that Carlsberg had engaged in the act of providing misleading information to customers about its products in order to attract customers of another enterprise, in violation of Point a, Clause 5, Article 45 of the 2018 Competition Law. As a result, Carlsberg was fined Dong 200 million (US$7,587).
NCC has found 3 statements made about awards Carlsberg had received to be inaccurate and misleading. The statement that “1664 Blanc is the No.1 best‑selling French beer brand globally” was “inaccurate and misleading to consumers”.
Carlsberg was instructed to alter the misleading information on its official website and social media platforms belonging to Carlsberg Vietnam Breweries Co., Ltd at https://carlsbergvietnam.vn, https://facebook.com/1664blancVN and https://youtube.com/@1664BlancVietnam; and requiring the removal of misleading product information from Huda, Huda Gold, and Halida beer cartons.
Vietnam is an important market for Carlsberg. The combined market of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia made up approximately 28% of Carlsberg Asia sales volume in 2025.
