AAK and KLK, through their joint-venture (JV) Nura Specialty Oils and Fats, has officially marked the start of the construction of a new specialty palm fractions plant in mid-August in Pasir Gudang, Johor in Malaysia.
The plant is expected to strengthen AAK’s access to sustainable, high-purity feedstock used in cocoa butter equivalents.
Once operational, the plant will broaden AAK’s supply base and further strengthen upstream integration. Nura will complement AAK’s long-standing supplier partnerships in the region, helping secure supply chain resilience while supporting the long-term profitable growth of its Chocolate & Confectionery Fats business.
Ernesto Zamudio, AAK’s Global Sourcing, Trading & Sustainability Director said, “Project Nura connects the strengths of 2 companies from different parts of the value chain. For AAK, it brings us closer to the source and strengthens our ability to manage priorities across the supply chain, from sustainability and quality to traceability and control over contaminants.”
The plant is expected to commence operation sometime in late 2028.
