With greater pet humanisation trend, Barentz has recently showcased a fully formulated edible ‘human-grade’ pet food concept at Interzoo 2026.
The product — a juicy, fibrous, whole-meat-like product — is designed to illustrate what ‘human-grade’ structure, texture, and visual appeal genuinely mean in practice. It features visible ingredients, authentic mouthfeel, and a product presentation that mirrors what consumers (humans) expect on their own plates.
The texture is achievable at industrial scale utilising meat-based and plant-based alternatives.
Catharina Nieuwenhuizen, Technical Director Pet Food at Barentz said, “Pet owners are no longer content to simply provide food — they are passing their dietary philosophy to their pets. This innovative concept showcases our expertise and extensive in-house knowledge about ingredients, on both nutritional and functional properties. And not only for wet pet food, but also for dry pet food, treats and supplements. We go the extra mile with our customers to accept the challenge and create innovative, appealing, nutritious pet food concepts, which helps customers to differentiate in the market and be future-proof.”
