Food and beverage companies in Asia are also eager to launch new products specifically to celebrate certain festive seasons like Christmas, Lunar New Year, Mooncake Festivals or even Valentine’s Day. The following are 2 new festive launches to celebrate the latter:
In Indonesia, Flash Coffee, an Indonesian technology-based coffee company, had partnered with Swiss chocolate brand Toblerone to provide 2 special drinks, namely Matcha Toblerone and Toblerone Latte, for Valentine’s Day this year.
The aim this year was to offer affordable quality beverages for coffee and chocolate lovers.
The Toblerone Latte is a blend of premium espresso and chocolate completed with crispy Toblerone topping; while Matcha Toblerone is a non-coffee drink comprises of matcha syrup and grains of Toblerone topping.
The 2 beverages are sold at Rp 18,000 (US$1.29) only.
Flash Coffee operates 42 outlets across Asia including in Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.
In Japan, Barry Callebaut’s ruby chocolate was featured for the first time in a new luxury ice cream by Ezaki Glico for Valentine’s day.
Called Ezaki Glico Giant Cone, the brand is also one of the pioneers of ruby chocolate ice cream in Japan. A brainchild of Japanese celebrity chef Hiroyuki Emori, the new Ruby chocolate product – Giant Cone, Adult Ruby Cocoa, in berry yogurt flavor, is an indulgent treat made available only during a limited time period at supermarkets and convenience stores.
Tomoka Kuwata, representative from the marketing department at Ezaki Glico said, “We are very pleased to launch this new luxury GIANT CONE together with Barry Callebaut. Consumers can enjoy the fresh berry-fruitiness of Ruby chocolate, paired with berry yogurt flavored ice cream and still expect the mesh of unique textures that is iconic of the GIANT CONE series. This item is also perfect as a personal treat during this Valentine’s Day.”
A 2020 consumer research done by Barry Callebaut showed that during the pandemic, Japanese consumers now crave for hedonistic moments of indulgence as a way of re-injecting a sense of adventure at home. The new GIANT CONE, Adult Ruby Cocoa, Berry Yogurt Flavor perfectly meets this consumer need. A separate consumer research also showed that half (48%) of Japanese respondents are aware of Ruby chocolate. This is up from 42% in 2019. Ice cream continues to be the 2nd most desired application for ruby chocolate after the classic tablet.
Japan remains an important market for Ruby chocolate in 2021.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Glico Philippines had also launched the new limited-edition Pocky Sakura in the Philippines, in celebration of the Sakura Season in the country. Pocky Sakura flavour initially has a slightly aromatic, milky strawberry-like scent. After chewing, the scent of strawberries fades away and the delicate scent lingers in the mouth. Pocky Sakura is available at a major retail outlets and online stores in the Philippines from 1 March 2021 for a limited period while stocks last. It hopes to relive the moment of Sakura for overseas consumers who cant afford to travel right now to see it
