Vietnam is about to achieve a recordbreaking US$1 billion in tuna exports, as the country saw 55% growth in exports to nearly US$808 million during the first 9 months of 2022, based on statistics derived from Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
The US continues to be Vietnam’s largest tuna export market during the review period with revenue of US$405 million, followed by Canada (US$43 million), Japan (US$31 million), Israel (US$26 million), Saudi Arabia (US$23 million) and Thailand (US$20 million).
Despite the high growth, demand for tuna from several of Vietnam’s main markets had slowed down due to high inflation.
Vietnamese exports of frozen tuna loin saw high growth with the export value of the product group rising by 99% year-on-year. Meanwhile, exports of canned tuna and other processed tuna also rose by 6% and 18%, respectively.
