Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the national average price of commercial chicken eggs has increased by 0.32% in the second week of November 2025 alone compared to October. One of the primary causes cited for this inflation is the high demand for eggs as a main menu item for the government’s Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program.
BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti mentioned that the average price of commercial chicken eggs currently exceeds the Highest Reference Buying Price (HAP) limit. The HAP for commercial chicken eggs is set at Rp30,000 (US$1.80) per kg. Meanwhile, the average price of eggs by the second week of November reached Rp31,646 (US$1.89) per kg, an increase from the average October price of Rp31,546 (US$1.889).
There is a need to regulate the prices of eggs, considered a staple food item, and monitor the activities of sellers/distributors, otherwise egg prices will continue to increase and will affect Indonesians generally.
