Pet Food demand in the Philippines is expected to grow by 9% in 2023 in line with growing pet ownership, according to latest report by USDA.
USDA valued the Philippine pet food market at US$434 million in 2023. The dry dog food market was expected to grow by 9% while the wet cat food segment is expected to grow 13% in 2023. On the other hand, food products for birds, fish, and small mammals have been posting ‘minimal growth’ with an overall market averaging only US$4 million annually.
Dog and cat food exports to the Philippines showed immense growth in 2021 and are expected to grow in 2023. The majority of imported dog and cat food originates from Thailand, the US, and Europe. In the Philippines, pet owners prefer imported pet food over locally-produced ones, as such the market offers huge opportunity for foreign brands.
According to a 2021 Rakuten survey, Philippine dog ownership was the highest in Asia at 67% of total households while cat ownership was 2nd highest at 43%.
