SPC Group has officially opened its first Paris Baguette bakery store in Malaysia, as a springboard for its expansion into the Halal food market in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
The first store, with a large area of 264 sq.metres, is located at the upscale Pavilion shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur.
The store comes after SPC Group and Berjaya Group set up a joint venture, Berjaya Paris Baguette in June 2022. Both partners agreed to invest US$30 million to setup a Halal production facility near Johor Bahru, close to Singapore, which will start operation in the 2nd half of 2023.
SPC Group plans to increase the number of Paris Baguette stores in Southeast Asia to 600 by 2030, up from the current 35 stores in 5 countries.
Malaysia’s Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) is also one of the world’s most credible halal certification body which led to SPC making that decision to choose Malaysia as its production site.
