The Secretariat of the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) has recently demanded from US-based Kraft Heinz Company to withdraw its misguided negative campaign on palm oil and ‘Palm oil-free’ claims in its products.
CPOPC said that Kraft Heinz, as a member of the Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), should take into account the sensitivity of the debate on palm oil in palm oil-producing countries, and make a far more balanced assessment of global sustainability and the environment.
This is considering the fact that its products are widely distributed in Indonesia and Malaysia, both of which are the top 2 producers of palm oil.
To correct the negative image, CPOPC is inviting Kraft Heinz to consider partnership to improve sustainability and cooperate with the group in preserving wildlife (particularly the habitat of orang utans).
CPOPC highlighted that millions of workers form part of the supply chain for palm oil and their survival and continuity should also be taken into consideration.
In its latest development, CPOPC sent an objection letter in August this year on its negative campaign pertaining to Kraft’s new hazelnut butter in Canada.
