The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MOA) has encouraged Malaysian firms to utilise ‘Low-Temperature Vacuum Drying’ technology to produce dried fruit products for exports.
This will not only increase their export value but also ensure a bigger market for their products, while also reducing wastage of fruits. One company, Kia Shing Importers and Exporters Sdn Bhd, has utilised this new technology, and its Director Alvin Lo said this technology allows the fruits to last longer without reducing its nutritional value. The company has successfully produced dried dragon fruit, durian, papaya, banana, pineapple and watermelon for the domestic as well as export market starting with Singapore.
The company is now working closely with MOA to penetrate China and Japan markets, and it is also eyeing Europe and the Middle East markets in the near future.
