In July, Japan-based Meiji Holdings has announced plan to establish Meiji Food (Guangzhou) in China.
Meiji Food (Guangzhou) will be established through Meiji (Chuo, Tokyo), a subsidiary of Meiji Holdings, and Meiji China Investment, Meiji’s China-based wholly-owned subsidiary that manages its business in China.
With an investment capital of approximately Yen 18.4 billion (US$173.3 million), Meiji Food (Guangzhou) will manufacture and sell milk, yogurt and confectionery products at its new 50,955 sq.metre production site. Production is scheduled to commence in 2023.
Meiji Holdings Group has identified China as its most important market in its medium-term business plan.
With the establishment of the subsidiary, in the milk and yogurt business, Meiji Holdings will build a 3-factory system with the existing Meiji Dairies (Suzhou) and Meiji Dairies (Tianjin), which is scheduled to start operation in the 2nd half of 2022.
Meiji Holdings will also be able to improve product development and production capacity in the confectionery segment by cooperating with these factories in China.
