The Board of Investments has recently approved the construction of Pesos 980 million (US$18 million) zero-waste sardines manufacturing facility proposed by Mega Prime Food Inc. in Sto. Tomas Batangas.
The facility is in line with the government’s goal to ensure Filipinos have access to affordable and nutritious food in the country.
Mega Sardines is currently the market leader in the domestic canned sardines market with 26% share. The new facility is designed to boost output by 20% to meet rising demand in Luzon, which accounts for 80% of total demand.
The new facility comprises of a modern semi-automated sardines canning manufacturing plant together with a zero-waste fish meal facility, cold storage and warehouse. The whole plant will operate using energy-efficient power source to minimize carbon emissions.
