Confectionery manufacturer Mars Wrigley, known for their Wrigley’s chewing gum and Mars chocolate, is planning to invest US$2 million annually over the next 3-4 years in a bid to improve the production and sustainability of its factory in Antipolo City.
According to Fernando del Castillo, Mars Wrigley’s Antipolo Factory Director, “We’re spending US$2 million this year and the following year. We are spending US$2 million [annually] for the next 3 to 4 years. We want to make sure that we have a competitive factory here in the Philippines, that we are growing and employing more people.”
The investment will focus on safety and sustainability of the factory’s production. Fernando said, “We have a vision for the next 3 to 5 years. A lot of the investment that we’re doing is into improving technology around safety – improving the equipment when it comes to quality and food safety to level up. We also have a big focus on accelerating sustainability initiatives such as our biomass project [and] improved chillers.”
Presently, the Antipolo factory is operating at 70% of its capacity and it is looking at new opportunities to increase output. The Antipolo factory is capable of producing 30 tons of various products daily and currently, it produces gum brands such as Doublemint, Juicy Fruit, and Cool Air.
