Mars Wrigley China has launched its first product packaging made entirely from post-consumer recycled PET (rPET).
The company has adopted this new packaging for its chocolate brand, CuiXiangMi®, the only brand within Mars China which is not a global brand and tailored for the domestic market.
The new packaging features 100% rPET in a 216g canister designed to impress consumers, while at the same time save 36 tons of virgin plastic each year.
According to a company statement, “We want to inspire consumers with more green and sustainable moments in addition to our tasty products.”
After launching the packaging for CuiXiangMi, the company plans to provide the rPET lid for its other brands such as Snickers and M&M’s this year. Ultimately, it aims to save 300 tons of virgin plastics in a year.
The use of rPET for packaging is part of Mars Wrigley China’s wider efforts to make its packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable.
Mars Wrigley China has also launched projects to reduce the packaging weight of its Dove and Extra confectionery brands, saving more than 1,000 tons of virgin plastics since 2019.
