The flourishing Bt 70 billion (US$2 billion) Pet Food Industry in Thailand has led to Mars Petcare (Thailand) Co, a pet food company, to invest US$10 million to open a product testing facility at its factory in Amata City Industrial Estate near Chon Buri.
The APAC Pet Center is the first integrated pet food R&D centre in Thailand and the Asia Pacific region. The centre’s goal is to support pet food product development at the regional level using international research standards. It is also the company’s 5th pet centre after those in the US, Germany, Russia and Mexico. It provides product testing service for Mars Petcare products from various countries such as Australia, New Zealand, China, India and South Korea, as well as benchmarks with other products.
The product testing facility and the 3,360 sq.metre APAC Pet Center complete its pet food ecosystem in Thailand, said Jaruk Srikiatden, Asia R&D director at Mars Petcare (Thailand).
The company currently operates 2 pet food manufacturing plants in Pak Chong in Nakhon Ratchasima and Chon Buri.
In conclusion, Somchuan Ratanamungklanon, Director-General of the Livestock Development Department said, “The establishment of the first Asia Pacific pet food research and development facility in Thailand demonstrates the country’s potential in the pet food business. Thailand is among the top 3 pet food exporters in the world.”
Thailand is one of Mars’ top 3 production base for export apart from the US and Europe.
