Malaysian sales of Halal food products are expected to cross RM50 billion (US$11 billion) in 2023, according to figures released by the Prime Minister’s Department of Religious Affairs.

To cope with the growth as well as to transform Malaysia into a centre for the global Halal trade industry, the government has launched various initiatives to improve the quality of Halal food and to attract foreign investments into Malaysia.

The country has also implemented various digitisation programmes through the MyeHALAL system application to help entrepreneurs save time and facilitate the process to apply for Halal certification in Malaysia. In addition, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) had also developed 2 Halal applications for Malaysia namely SmartHalal and Verify Halal, which serve as a reference for consumers and the industry to obtain information related to the country’s Halal certification.
