Thailand can now export rice flour to the Malaysian peninsular after shipments were halted for almost 20 years, according to Thai Commerce Ministry.
The move came after a long-standing ban on issuing licences for Malaysian importers to import rice flour to the west (peninsular) was lifted. According to the Ministry, “We found that Malaysian agencies responsible for issuing licences to import products to the western and eastern parts of the country were different.”
Malaysian importers had recently informed the Department of Trade Negotiations (DTN) that they had received the licenses.
Thailand exported goods worth Bt 75.34 billion (US$2.06 billion) via Malaysian border in the first 5 months of 2022, with exports of rice products rose 12.5% during this period.
