In June 2025, Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) announced the construction of a new Food Technology Park in Dongjiakou, Qingdao in Shandong Province, China, in line with the Group’s strategic plans to strengthen its core merchandizing capabilities while expanding its value chain downstream.
The Qingdao Food Technology Park marks the company’s 50th year presence in China, supporting the transformation and growth of China’s agri-food industry and helping to build a resilient and sustainable supply chain in the country. The facility will include oilseeds crushing, processing of specialty feed proteins and products, as well as production of food-grade lecithin. Upon completion in 2027, the facility will occupy 153,000 sq.metre and has the capacity to produce 1.5 million tons of feed protein, 370,000 tons of refined oil and 15,000 tons of lecithin annually.
The park will also be located within Qingdao’s Dongjiakou Economic Zone offering deep-water port facilities as well as excellent logistics and warehousing facilities. It will be an important industrial base for LDC to supply to East China and the broader Northeast Asia markets.
Earlier in May 2025, LDC also announced the inauguration of its new glycerin refining plant and edible oil packaging line in Lampung, thereby expanding its presence in Indonesia. LDC’s new glycerin production plant, with annual production capacity of 55,000 metric tons, will help meet growing global demand for high-purity, USP-grade glycerin, strengthening LDC’s competitive position as a supplier to the pharmaceutical, personal care and cosmetics industries that are key drivers of global refined glycerin demand, projected to grow at a 2.5% CAGR from 2023 to 2040. Indonesia is also the world’s largest producer of glycerin.
Meanwhile, LDC’s new edible oil packaging line has an annual packaging capacity of approximately 64,800 metric tons, and will leverage synergies with LDC’s existing operations in Lampung to capture market opportunities for packaged edible oil exports, as well as the exploration of domestic opportunities which are in line with the country’s goal to develop its downstream industry for palm oil.
