Japanese food producer, Kewpie aims to triple its production capacity in Indonesia for mayonnaise, dressings and other condiments as it aims to tap the country’s growing middle income consumer market.
Kewpie will invest about Yen 3.2 billion (US$23 million) to set up a new factory building at an existing plant in Bekasi, West Java. The new facility will serve mainly the Indonesian market and is expected to start operation in November 2024.
With a total floor space of about 15,000 sq.meters and an annual production capacity of 12,000 tonnes, the new facility will boost the plant’s total annual capacity to 19,500 tonnes.
Kewpie is positioning Indonesia as one of its key market with a growing population and rising income. The company is targeting sales of Yen 3.3 billion (US$23.8 million) in the first year of factory operation. More production lines may be added in the future.
Automated packing and bottle-filling equipment will be set up at the new facility. By using renewable energy sources and energy-efficient equipment, Kewpie also hopes to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% or more. The plant has also gained Halal certification for all its products.
