Japanese confectioner Imuraya Group Co. will start selling in Malaysia locally produced ice cream bars featuring its signature ‘azuki’ red beans.
The production of this popular Japanese ice cream will be commissioned to a Malaysian firm by local subsidiary Imuraya Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., marking the first overseas manufacture of the Azuki Bar series.
The Malaysian firm will initially produce 3 types of ice cream bars flavored with azuki, ‘matcha’ green tea and milk, with a recommended retail price of RM4.50 (US$1.07) each.
Imuraya decided to produce its ice cream in Malaysia as this will speed up its Halal certification issued by Malaysia’s Department of Islamic Development, a well-known regional and international halal certification body. This will also facilitate its access into the Malaysian market, a majority muslim country as well as neighbouring countries. In addition, Imuraya is also able to sell its ice cream at a more affordable price point.
