Eight Thai meat-processing plants have recently secured approval from Japan to export cooked chicken meat.
According to the Deputy Director-General of Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development, Sophat Chawalkul, “Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries had sent 5 officials to inspect 8 plants in Thailand in early September. At the end of the inspection, all 8 factories met Japan’s high quality standards for cooked chicken meat. Two of them are existing exporters whose approvals have been extended, while 6 plants are newly certified.”
The Department is expecting 8 more factories to be certified by Japan. Thailand expects exports of meat products to Japan to increase this year. In 2021, Thailand exported 461.2 million tonnes of meat products to Japan, valued at Bt 58.76 billion (US$1.61 billion). In just the first 7 months of 2022, more than 267.65 million tonnes valued at Bt 37.7 billion (US$1.04 billion) have already been shipped to Japan.
