Anti-epidemic authorities in Tianjin, China has recently found traces of COVID-19 on samples of ice cream produced by Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Company.
As a result, all of the products produced by the company have been removed after the samples it sent to the municipal centre for disease control tested positive for the coronavirus.
Investigations revealed that the company produces the ice cream using milk powder from New Zealand and whey powder from Ukraine.
Nevertheless, a virologist said that contamination is most probably caused by an infected person who handled the product during production, and the authorities should instead be more concerned over the issue of hygiene at the production facility.
The company’s 1,662 employees have been placed under quarantine and underwent nucleic acid testing following guidance from the Tianjin Center for Disease Control.
The authorities have also informed consumers who have bought the ice cream to report to their various health centres for further medical checkup.
