In the first 7 months of 2024, the Brazilian coffee segment has experienced a tremendous 40% increase in its exports to China, according to a report by Cecafe. China has become a key market for Brazilian coffee due to its rising middle class, growing coffee culture in the 1st and 2nd tier cities, as well as growing demand for premium quality coffee.
Brazil is now the world’s largest coffee producer and exporter, and it owes this dominant position mainly due to the country’s favorable climate and substantial coffee-growing areas. The country produces both Arabica and Robusta varieties, with Arabica being the more prominent export. From January to July 2024, Brazil exported 594,284 (60kg) coffee bags to China, representing a huge 40% increase from just 424,661 bags in the same period in 2023.
The increase in export volume to China corresponds closely to the 36% rise in export revenue. As of now, China ranked as the 13th largest importer of Brazilian coffee. The coffee business plays an important role in Brazil’s relationship with China, which is its largest trading partner.
Brazil’s coffee industry is also a key sector of its economy, as the country also saw its overall coffee exports rose by 46.3% in the same period. Brazilian coffee continues to be in high demand worldwide due to its high quality as well as competitive pricing.
