US-based Cargill is opening a new 6-hectare manufacturing site for animal nutrition near Dong Nai’s Giang Dien Industrial Park.
Vietnam is an important country for Cargill as it has so far invested more than US$160 million there to build 11 animal nutrition plants, 1 grain and oilseed warehouse, and 2 aqua technology application centers for fish and shrimp.
The new plant is called the Provimi Factory. Provimi is a global provider of products and services in animal nutrition since 1972 and in 2004, Provimi acquired domestic agribusiness Nutriway Vietnam and changed its name to Provimi Vietnam, which had gradually become one of the leading premix suppliers in poultry and aquaculture farming. In 2011, Cargill completed the acquisition of Provimi for US$2.1 billion to become a global leader in animal nutrition.
Cargill is one of the earliest US investors in Vietnam which built its presence here in 1995 after the normalisation of ties between the 2 countries after the Vietnam War.
