Local pizza chain, Canadian 2 For 1 Pizza is making commendable efforts to reduce its carbon footprint despite the challenging pandemic and inflation.
It is currently working with partners to make the switch from cardboard and single-use plastic packaging to 100% compostable and biodegradable consumables created from plant-based materials. The all-natural resin coating guarantees leak-proof dining to prevent the usual bento box or coffee cup spills.
Canadian 2 For 1 Pizza has also worked with plant-based food manufacturers to introduce delicious, new meat-free offerings as part of their menu. Mohamed Abdullah, CEO of Hobbs Holdings, the master franchise owner said, “The sustainability initiative began in 2021 when we worked with food-tech companies Quorn and Omni for the first time. Following the success of our initial meat-free product launch, we received encouraging feedback from our partners and customers. This gave us the confidence to explore and venture further into this new market sector. We are currently working with more food technology companies in Singapore to research and develop more items for our menu for a full range of meat-free products.”
Canadian 2 For 1 Pizza’s plant-based menus have been well-received by consumers and they include Chicken Chunks (Dynameat); Korean Chagrill Bites (Harvest Gourmet); and Fish and Tots (Omnimeat). Its recent launch of The Impossible™ Pizza has also made it the only pizza chain in Singapore to carry the pizza brand on its menu.
Despite the higher cost towards sustainability, the pizza chain continues to maintain its positioning as one of the more affordable pizza options available in the market. Mohamed said, “We will always work towards findings the perfect balance between cost and affordability to ensure our customers remain satisfied.”
