HK-based philanthropic dog food brand, Buddy Bites closed its seed funding round on 28 April, successfully raising US$1 million in investments which it will use to fund its expansion in Hong Kong, Singapore, UK and Taiwan, as well as to launch new products.
Chris Lee, Co-Founder and CEO of Buddy Bites is excited of the future as it gained new investors like Leap Venture Studio, a pet care startup accelerator created in partnership between Mars Petcare and Michelson Found Animals. This places Buddy Bites in a stronger position to grow its business and at the same time help more sheltered dogs. Buddy Bites will also receive mentorship and support from Leap Venture Studio.
Rachel Sheppard, Director of ventures at Mars Petcare and co-lead of Leap Venture Studio said, “Buddy Bites’ commitment to providing pets with premium dog food is matched by their incredible impact in Hong Kong, Singapore and the UK through their shelter give-back program. We are excited to support them in their mission and growth as they continue to make a difference for pets and their communities.”
Euromonitor estimated that the Asian Pet Market is projected to reach US$34.8 billion by 2029. Buddy Bites aims to capitalise on this growth while also supporting pets in need. Its brand was launched in 2020 offering a variety of premium dry dog food formulas that support gut health and is backed by veterinarians. Buddy Bites donates meals to shelters from each order purchased, resulting in more than 7 million meals donated since launch. Every month, Buddy Bites donates about 15,000kg of food to 12 shelters, feeding nearly 2,000 dogs.
