Beyond Meat finalises deal to build production facilities in China

US-based Beyond Meat has finalised a deal to build manufacturing facilities in China.
It has inked an agreement with Jiaxing Economic & Technological Development Zone near Shanghai to develop 2 production facilities on the site, including one of the world’s largest and most technologically advanced plant-based meat factories.
Work has already commenced on the project with trial runs expected within a few months, and full scale production by 2021. Beyond Meat considers China to be one of its most important market, for growth as well as for future R&D. Beyond Meat claimed that it will be the first multinational solely focusing on plant-based meat to bring its own major production facility into China. Earlier, it had successfully penetrated Chinese supermarket shelves as well as the food services sector this year, making its ‘meat’ patties available at major fast food outlets like KFC, Pizza Hut and Starbucks amongst others.
Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown emphasised on China being the largest market for meat products currently and possibly for plant-based meat in the near future.
