In Singapore, 2 milk tea products imported by Green Olive Group were recalled recently after dehydroacetic acid was detected in them. Dehydroacetic acid is an unpermitted or banned food additive under the Singapore Food Regulations.
The two products affected are Xiang Piao Piao Muscovado Sugar Mix (Bubble and Red Bean) Milk Tea, and Matcha Mix (Bubble and Raisin) Milk Tea. Both products are imported from China.
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has directed the importer to recall the two products. Although the food safety risk associated with consumption of the products is low, SFA has advised consumers to refrain from consuming them.
In Singapore, all food additives including colouring must be approved by the SFA before they can be legally included in food sold locally.
